April 2008 News Letter

My Brother Knights:
As we enter the month of April, there is always a feeling of optimism in the air as the weather warms and the days lengthen with the landscape taking on its new wardrobe of trees and flowers in bloom. The start of spring means outdoor activities as well, as Council 6904 will be cooking hot dogs for Little League opening day and collecting for the Mentally Challenged Drive this month.
The Notre Dame Membership Blitz was held during the last weekend of March. Our Lady of Mercy Church will be having its Membership Blitz the weekend of April 12 and 13. We need Brothers that attend the OLM Masses to man our table and sign up new members. Our new recruiting tool during this blitz is the CD put together by Brothers Vinnie Lobello and Dan Lieneck (Vinnie’s son Danny really did it!) that highlights our Council in pictures. Thanks to Dan Aloia and his 1000+ inventory of photos. We can now offer a visual demonstration of Elizabeth Ann Seton Council 6904 in action. This CD should give potential candidates a better understanding of our Council. In addition, there will be printed information at the recruitment table.
All new First Degree Knights inducted this Columbian year will receive a First Degree Certificate commemorating Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to New York and Washington DC which begins on April 15th. Those that have received their 1
st Degree prior to April 20th will also have their name placed on a scroll to be presented to the Pope during his visit.
Our recent successful St Patrick’s Day Dance was co-chaired by our Warden Mark Kearney and PGK Derek Jess. These two Brothers came out of “retirement” to chair the dance which was without a chairperson as we began the new Columbian Year. The enthusiasm and support that I receive from these two worthy Brothers is an example that all Brothers in the Council should look to emulate. Please congratulate Mark and Derek as Council 6904’s co-Knights of the Month for April.
Vivat Jesus,

Dennis

The April Social meeting will be on the 17th.
IT'S KILLER CHICKEN NIGHT (WINGS, LEGS, AND THIGHS!!)

Drive for the Mentally Challenged April 24-April 27

Our annual Drive is upon us. Seems it gets here sooner each year! We are all set with the new vests from last year. Now I need your help. Please call with your preference of day and time to donate the minimum two hours for this worthy cause. Again, 100% of what we collect is donated to five organizations that all help the mentally challenged in our area. What I need especially are Brothers who can “work the streets” on Thursday the 24th, and Friday the 25th in the 4 pm to 6:30 pm range so that we can get maximum coverage and collect as much as possible.

All new members please call: this is a great way to get involved; you will feel a great sense of satisfaction in helping those in need. There will be sign-up sheets at our April 3rd and 17th meetings as well. God Bless the Brothers of Council 6904 who have proven to shine in this endeavor.

COPPOLA'S

Once again, our Brother Knights made Elizabeth Ann Seton Council proud! On the 28th of February, a request came to us at our meeting from PGK Robert Fleiger to prepare food for the cast and crew of the play West Side Story at Whippany Park HS. Even though it was a last minute request, Brothers Joe Kowalski, Joe Ward, Joe Milano, Dennis Dittrick and Nick Cetrulo did a superb job of preparing a pasta and meatball feast with all the trimmings. We would also like to thank Brothers Bob Peters, Bob Flieger and Larry Del Plato for the job they did serving the food. Everyone in attendance, including the Principal John Manning, raved about the great job the Knights did that afternoon. We would also like to thank Father Sean for the use of OLM’s kitchen. Without the use of OLM’s Kitchen, all of the aforementioned would have been impossible. Lastly, A Team Members, “I love it when a plan comes together”. You guys are the best !!!!!

Hey Brothers, what a spectacular St. Patrick's Day Dance !!! I guess what brings us all closer as an organization is the fact that we enjoy what we do. As John O'Brien always says, if you look at the pictures taken by Brother Dan Aloia, everyone is always smiling – and this Dance was no different. First, let me say that Mark Kearney and Derek Jess did a great job in chairing the event while John Corona did his usual magnificent job of decorating the hall. I would like to recognize those Brothers who assisted with set up of the Legion Hall: Bob Peters, Joe, Kevin, and Nathan Ward, Joe Milano, Bob, Tim, and Matt Gallo, Joe – the Killer – Kowalski, Jim Ruvo, Dan Zarzycki, Lenny Araneo, Richard Koch, Nick and Ralph Cetrulo, and Dennis Dittrick. This year for reasons beyond our control, we were unable to support the cooking of the Corn Beef, Potatoes and Cabbage. The A-Team will resume the cooking next year. ‘A great time was had by all’ !!!!

The following Corpsmen did us proud and looked great marching in the parade led by our own Mike Riccardi. The following Corpsmen marched: SK Michael Liss, SK Raphaele Alberto, SK Dan Lieneck, SK Lanfranco Cattanzaro, SK Phil Ackermann, SK Gary Liss, SK Larry Pribula, SK Bob Hinck, SK John O'Brien, SK John Anzul, SK Vinny LoBello, SK Bob Scaga, SK Paul Walker, SK Mike Riccardi – Commander and Our Worthy State Deputy Tom Ciborski.

Thank You - Thank You - Thank You - Thank You - Thank You !

I want to take a moment to thank each and everyone of you that helped the Knight of Columbus Council # 6904 make our 31st annual Saint Patrick's Day Dinner Dance such a success this year. I got the feeling that everyone had a great time by talking with old friends and neighbors, dancing, singing, and cavorting with everyone else at the party.

For all of those who sponsored a table, organized the reservations and collected the money, thank you. You made my job so much easier.

To give everyone fair warning so that you can mark your calendars, we’ve booked the Legion Hall for next year's Party, and the date is Saturday March 14, 2009. If you would like to reserve your table(s) now, please feel free to contact me and let me know.

Mark Kearney, Chairman
