Summer 2008 News Letter

My Brother Knights:

Happy Summertime! With a very busy Columbian Year completed, I am looking forward to bigger and better things for our Council as our new year begins. We, as a Council, have made this summer an active one. The painting of the OLM School classrooms was completed on July 19th. What a great feeling to see Brother Knights, parishioners, and even some volunteers from the Fire Department painting side by side for such a worthy cause. A full list of volunteers will be in our next newsletter.

Our sponsorship of the Hanover Township Concert Series was enhanced by using the occasion to collect food for the OLM food pantry. We were able to collect about 200 lbs in three weeks. I have been asked by the Recreation Dept. to continue this collection during Hanover Township Day as the food pantries continue to experience increasing requests. Thanks to all the Brothers who helped at the concert series.

Many of you are unaware of the year-end awards that were presented at our June turnover meeting. A fifty-year service pin and certificate were presented to Brother Frank Manganelli. Brother Bob O’Hare, as Deputy Chief of the Cedar Knolls Fire Department, was awarded a plaque for his service as an EMS volunteer. The Ward family: Joe, Toni, Kevin, and Nathan were presented with the Family-of-the-Year Award to thank them for all of the volunteer time they give to our Council. Finally, Brother Joe Milano is our Knight-of-the-Year for the past Columbian Year. Joe is warming up in the bullpen as our next Grand Knight and works tirelessly as my Deputy Grand Knight as well as being an active Fourth Degree member.

Finally, our Knight of the Month for July is Brother Dan Aloia. As our photographer of over 1000 pictures, historian and music man for our First Degree, please congratulate Dan on his tireless dedication to preserving our Council history.

Vivat Jesus,

Dennis

The August Social meeting will be on the 21st (Pizza night).

The September Social meeting will be on the 18th (Italian Hot Dog night).

Tricky Tray

As promised, here is a detailed report on our very successful Tricky Tray. We had a fantastic Tricky Tray event on June 6th. Everything ran smoothly and everyone had a great time. A big thank you to the over 40 Brothers who came out to help: Dan Aloia, Joe Barron, Carmen Blandino, Dave Brueno, George Coppola, Mike Czuchnicki, Jim Davidson, Larry DelPlato, Bob Fleiger, Brian Foran, Bob Gallo, Joe Gilberti, John Hendricks, Piotr Juriewicz, Richard Koch, Auggie Laluna, Dan Lieneck, Vince Lobello Jr., Joe Quinn, Bob Smith, Dan Zirzycki, non-Knight Frank Forte (Val’s brother), and the all-day-helpers Mike Ricciardi, Tony Lentine, Jerry Martino, Nick Cetrulo, Joe Kowalski, and Dennis Fashano. Also, many thanks to our on-stage helpers Arnold George, Fred Meola, and Frank Manganelli; our money men Chuck Forsythe and John Carman; and John O’Brien and Mark Kearney for handling the food and drinks.

Very special thank yous go to Joe Bono for doing a yeoman’s job in handling the reservations and seating (no small task) Vince Creo for performing some miraculous soliciting, Vince Lobello for lending a hand in many different ways throughout the year, and to the entire Ward family, Joe, Toni, Kevin, and Nathan, for helping in countless ways all year long.

And, of course, let’s all keep in mind that at the heart of our Tricky Tray event are our ladies Val Creo and Majella Lobello. Their tireless effort and inspired creativity throughout the year enables our Council to enjoy the fruits of this event allowing us to donate to many charities.

Thank you all… Joe Milano.

CAMDEN YARDS

Our Annual trip to Camden Yards to watch the Yankees play the Orioles will be Sunday, August 24th. Game time is 1pm. Cost is $60/pp and will include ticket to the game, bus transportation to/from the game (leaving from Whippany) and beverages on the bus. If you would like to go to the game, but drive yourself, let me know how many tickets you want. Cost will be between $20 and $22/ticket.

HANOVER TOWNSHIP DAY

It’s that time of year again… Hanover Township Day will be on Saturday, September 6th, at Malapardis Park. We will, once again, be serving corn and soda. This year we have been asked to continue our food drive efforts that began at the Concert Series. So volunteers are needed to help out. It will be a great day.

INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS

Our Council will hold our annual installation of officers on Sunday, September 14th, following the 11AM Mass at OLM. Light refreshments will be served. All members and their families are invited.

Flieger’s For Your Information…

Somehow Bro. George Coppola's name was left off the list of Eva's Kitchen cooks in June... Sorry 'bout that, George.
Our condolences to Bro. Don DePalma and family on the passing of his mother.
Speaking of condolences, we had a well-deserved great turnout at Bro. Brueno's wake
Don't forget the Bereavement List is being revised .... call the Grand Knight 973-292-9560 if you want to be on it.
Bro. Tony Lentine still winning prizes on the golf course ... watch out tiger!
The Knights responding nicely to Fr. Sean's request to help with painting the OLM Academy .... that's what the Knight's are all about: helping out.
The food collection at the concerts worked out pretty good, but could be better. Next year, we have to "talk it up".
Remember when those ice cream "half gallons" sneaked down to 1-1/2 quarts? Well, now we see some gallons (bleach) coming out only 3 quarts! Same price, of course.
Congratulations to Bro. Dan Aloia on winning the photo award at the State convention again! He’s also getting his photos printed in the local newspaper – nice goin’ Dan!
Our Council Brothers once again well represented at the charity Car Show to benefit kids with serious diseases.

VETERANS’ MEMORIAL

The Hanover Township Veterans Alliance, in cooperation with the Township of Hanover, will unveil and dedicate the new Veterans Memorial in honor of Hanover Township's living and deceased veterans at a ceremony to be held on Saturday, September 20th, at 10:00 A.M. The new Memorial, to be located next to the flag pole at the entrance to the Municipal Building, is a fitting tribute to all our Township residents who served and continue to serve in the armed forces with honor and distinction in protecting and defending liberty and freedom.

The dedication ceremony will be held at the main entrance to the Municipal Building rain or shine. The keynote speaker will be Congressman Rodney P. Frelinghuysen with introductory remarks by Mayor Ron Francioli.

Light refreshments will be served following the ceremony. All Hanover Township residents are cordially invited to attend this auspicious occasion as we take time to honor our veterans for the many sacrifices they made on our behalf.

As one of the sponsors of this important memorial, we encourage all Brother Knights to attend.

COPPOLA'S

To all my Brother Knights, if you missed the Two Kids Foundation Car Show fund raiser at the Birchwood Manor on Sunday August 3rd. you truly missed a great event. The weather was absolutely perfect – what a beautiful day! I never thought that we could surpass last year’s event but let me tell you that we exceeded all expectations. We established a new record for cars in attendance at 1,051. We also set a record with the number of spectators who attended. In addition to the cars and spectators, there were many new vendors with everything from toys to jewelry to car parts and accessories.

I am the Board Member in charge of trophies and I could not have done it without all the help I received from my many Brother Knights and their families. What a spectacular presentation the trophy table made! Our responsibilities include ordering trophies, picking them up, setting-up the trophy table, organizing the trophy database, and keeping a good account of trophy sponsor choices.
I would like to recognize the following Brothers and their family members who helped. They were our Worthy Grand Knight Dennis Fashano, Joe Ward and his sons Kevin and Nathan, Bob Gallo and his sons Timothy and Mathew, (Nathan, Timmy and Matt were instrumental in passing out trophies to the winners) Nick Cetrulo (my records keeper), Joe Kowalski, Joseph Milano, Carmen Blandino, Topsy Tony Lentine, Mark Kearney, Len Fariello, Ed Muscariello, Mike Riccardi Jr., John Corona, John Carmen, Tony Mongiovi, Chris Kennedy, Jerry Martino and Jim Ruvo. It goes without saying that I am so very proud of all my Brother Knights for all they do for me and for our community. Without all your help, I just don’t know what I would do. This is why the Elizabeth Ann Seton Council 6904 is so well respected in Hanover Township. Bless all my Brothers and their families

May the Peace of the Lord be with you all always…..George!
