Elizabeth Ann Seton Council 6904
Knights of Columbus
Whippany, NJ

October 2008

My Brother Knights:

October is generally one of the busiest months of our Columbian Year, and this year is no exception. Each weekend, we have an activity. The blood drive, Town clean-up, membership drives and, of course, our annual dinner dance are all occurring this month. Please contact the chairman of these functions to donate your time to make each function a success.

While membership blitzes at our Churches are important, please remember that membership recruitment should originate from each one of us. We should constantly be promoting the good works that Knights of Columbus represent. Let Council 6904 continue as one of the best Councils in performing its works of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism – the foundations of this order.

Patriotism was in the forefront on Saturday, September 20th as the long awaited Veterans‟ Memorial was dedicated under crystal blue skies at the Hanover Township Municipal campus. The Fourth Degree honor guard represented the Knights, and many of our Brothers attended the ceremony. All should be proud of this memorial and pleased that Council 6904 donated money towards its realization.

For the month of October, I am honoring a Brother who represents the true definition of charity. What I say here will not be enough to describe his life of helping others. With his wife Karen, he has opened a homeless shelter, opened their house to students and a Katrina victim, headed Project Appalachia, and has been an integral part of the building of the Haiti residence as well as the food collection for the Haitian people conducted at Notre Dame Church this September. I am honored to call Deacon Joe Harris a friend and the Knight of the Month for October.

Vivat Jesus,
Dennis

The October Social meeting will be on the 16th

(A variety of Pastas will be served)!

INSURANCE NEWS

One of the more popular products available through your KofC Insurance Agent, John Stabile, is the Discoverer. The Discoverer combines the guaranteed cash value features of a whole life policy with the features of term life insurance (called Additional Protection Benefit). Working with your local KofC insurance agent, you select the blend that’s right for you. With The Discoverer, your premiums will be lower than a traditional whole life policy because over time the term portion of your Discoverer automatically converts to permanent insurance, giving you affordable, whole life protection.

In today’s uncertain financial times, it can only benefit our Brothers and their families to discuss these matters with a professional like our own John Stabile. Call him at 973-539-2761.

COPPOLA'S

My Brothers all… Although Hanover Township Day was celebrated this year on Sunday due to bad weather on Saturday, it was still a huge success. As for the Knights, once again we had the job of cooking and serving corn as well as dispensing soda for the day. As I’ve always stated in the past, “they will come" and boy did they come. A record number of Brothers turned out to help with this event. As District Deputy I have seen first hand how blessed we are given the struggle that other Councils have with member participation.

I would therefore like to recognize the following Brothers who participated beginning with our Worthy Grand Knight Dennis Fashano, Brothers Joseph Ferraris, John Gigantino, Joe Hagen, Joseph Milano, Joe, Kevin and Nathan Ward, Vinnie Lobello, Dennis Dittrick, Jim Ruvo, Derek Jess, Bob Fleiger, Gerry Martino, Richard Koch, Joseph Quinn, John O’Brien, Joe the Killer Kowalski, Dick Larkin, John Guido, Ted Sieka, Mark Kearney, Gene Reilly, Mike Ricciardi, Robert Peters, Ray Keimig, Pete Kusik, Big Joe Coccia and Paul Lonero. Besides the wonderful support of all our brothers, you could not have ordered better weather. One thing is for sure, the residents of Hanover all appeared to be having a great time.

If you had an opportunity to see all the art awards, you would have seen two of our Brother’s family members who won First Place or Special Awards. Nathan Ward won not just one, but two First Place Awards for his photos of some very beautiful flowers which were taken at Joe Kowalski's house. Kathy and Lizzy Dittrick, Dennis's wife and daughter won First Place and Special Award for photos taken at the shore. All in all the photo's were beautiful and well deserved. Not only do we have talented members but talented family members. Dan Aloia if you wait long enough you can train Nathan Ward to take your place as our Council’s photographer and historian.

Lastly, our Worthy Inside Guard and SK Vinnie Lobello was planning to leave early until he heard the many war stories of other Brothers who decided to either not attend or leave early from a Special Knights event. I don't want to say that we scared him, lets just say we convinced him that it would be in his best interest not to leave too early unless he wanted a couple hundred ears of corn planted on his lawn (yes Vinnie we know where you live.)

May the Peace of the Lord be with you all always…..George!
