News Letter Summer 2007

My Brother Knights:

Welcome. That is the first word that came to mind when I decided to start my first message to you as your Grand Knight. I welcome both myself and those Brothers who, for whatever reason, have not been to any Council meetings recently. I hope that, during the next two years, we can bring many of you back to our Council whether in person or as a contributing Brother to the charitable deeds we intend to do.

Achieving the goals I want to for the Council requires the help of many Brothers, both as Officers and Chairmen. As Officers of the Council, I have been blessed with Joe Milano, Joe Ward, and Mark Kearney who have proven themselves as Chairmen of important fund-raisers for the Council and have dedicated themselves to constantly improving 6904.

I have put together a strong team for Recruitment with PGK John O’Brien as the Chairman. A goal I have is to get new members and get them active quickly and through their Degrees. We need the new Brothers to become the leaders of tomorrow. I am sending the invitation to the 16 new Brothers from 2006-2007 to come to our meetings and all are invited to the Sept. 20th “Turn On” meeting. We will be presenting those Brothers with Degree Certificates.

As a reminder, our meetings are the first and third Thursdays of the month at 8 pm at Monroe Hall except for July and August where meetings are the third Thursday only. The meeting dates may be obvious to most, but sometimes we have a tendency to take things for granted. As Grand Knight, I will do my best to be aware of all that is necessary to do my job as best as possible with an open mind.

Finally, I would like to thank Past Grand Knight Derek Jess for his hard work and dedication to our Council. Besides initiating the Council’s Scholarship, he brought increased success to our fundraisers and worked hard on the Council By-laws. I hope to continue the great leadership that has been our Council’s tradition exemplified by Derek and all of the previous Grand Knights.

Vivat Jesus,

Dennis

2007 Drive for the Mentally Challenged

For this year’s drive, I can finally connect the name to the vests. We proudly wore the new vests with “Mentally Challenged” as the key words and received good press, as the saying goes, from many of the donors. Again, despite my challenge of being under the weather for the week of the Drive, our Council 6904 wasn’t and came through again, with 67 Brothers and over 240 hours of time donated. Thanks to Diane, the calls were made and the posts were manned.

What would be a Drive without our standout, Jim Ruvo at Ruvo’s corner, Rt 10 and Whippany Road? His corner was responsible for collecting over $3,000 of our total. What more can I say for someone who would get injections in his ailing back in order to give his time to aid those in need. God Bless you again!

Let me thank those that gave the full days of collecting from the Brothers: Bob Peters, who has helped me for over 10 years, even when we only collected Friday through Sunday. Bob Fleiger and Bob O’Hare were on the roads all day as well. Bob O’Hare also found time in his busy schedule to collect on the street. Thanks to Jerry Martino who helped me on Sunday to collect also. For the street collectors, again Pete Bergencamp, not a Brother, gave two days at Parsippany Rd/N. Jefferson Rd to help, and he brought in over $ 400. My thanks to Chris Kennedy, Joe Ward, and Joe Kowalski who helped at Jefferson/ Rt 10. Also, Fred Meola, Bob O’Hare, Joe Bono, Brian Foran, Arnold George, Len Fariello, Mike Czuchnicki, Carmine Bianci (new Brother), and Len Araneo (a first timer collecting on the street). These Brothers need to be applauded as collecting at the street locations is non-stop action.

Thanks to the store collectors: Nick Cetrulo ( 4 shifts on two questionable knees!), Tony Lentine ( 3 shifts, but he still has good knees), John McCabe, Mike McGovern (our new transferee from Parsippany Council), Al Noll, Sal Iannocone (two shifts!), Ralph Levebre, Dan Aloia (two shifts and our crack picture taker), Dave Pattison, Jerry Berardi ( two shifts!), John Hendricks, Roman Rusiecki, Bob Steiger, Dave Brueno and father Bob Brueno, Frank Manganelli, Bob Hinck, Joe Milano, Joe Ferraris, Carmen Blandino, and Dick Koch ( new 2007 Brother ).

Also, on the weekend, those collecting were: Don DePalma, Jim Accuosti, Joe Gilberti ( two shifts), Jim Martin, Mike Riccardi, George Coppola (two shifts), Dom Vigilante, John Tort, Dick Larkin, Dennis Dittrick, Joe Pisaro (new Brother), Bob Smith (new Brother), Jack Valez, Vinnie Viglione, Ralph Cetrulo, Joe Beneziano, Sam Intile, Bob Gallo, Chuck Forsythe, Tony Grabas, Joe Barron, John Ferromosca, John Giganti (new Brother), Shawn Rice ( new Brother), Joe Harris, John Guido, Doug Mascolo, Jim Matlin, and a special thanks to Brian O’ Toole, who collected Friday and Sunday and took every last penny from the Foodtown shoppers.

Thanks to the OLM Brothers who collected over $400 by picking up the bucket and vest at their respective Masses. That total is the best ever for Our Lady of Mercy Church. Thanks to Notre Dame for their donation. And to those Brothers who gave personally and through their business, we collected $12,200, another great achievement for Council 6904. I thank you again for your continued support for those mentally challenged.

Sincerely, Dennis

Mass Blessing Our New Grand Knight

On Friday, August 3 at 6:30 am, Father Sean, Pastor of Our Lady of Mercy Church, has graciously added my name into the celebration of the Eucharist at the Chapel for this morning Mass. All are invited to participate. I am deeply touched by the recognition and am appreciative of all that Our Lady of Mercy has done to promote the Knights. Dennis

West Point Football

On October 6th, there will be a trip to West Point to see Army vs Tulane. We will have our own tent to use once there. There are plenty of activities to see including the military parade, 21-gun salute, and tours of the beautiful campus. Tickets are between $25 and $30. Everyone will be asked to bring one item and everything is shared with everybody which makes for a real smorgasbord of great tasting food !!! For info and reservations, contact Mark Kearney – 973-884-1955.

Congratulations to Brother George Coppola PGK on his appointment as District Deputy of District 38.

Our own District Deputy, Bro John Guido PGK has been re-appointed to our District (39), Congrats John!

Thanks to Joe Bono’s thoughtfulness when he was Grand Knight, we once again gave Father’s Day gifts to our four Fathers, Jude, Justing, Sean, and Dan. That’s nice !

Brother Gerry Martino treated us to a very nice repast at our May meeting. Followed up with a delightful, delicious cake which we suspect was baked by Mrs. Martino… Thanks a bunch to you both!

Brother Lou Alfieri, PGK, not quite settled yet in Florida and misses us.

Brother Hank Andreski, PGK, and Ceil, back from an eventful trip to Mexico and it might still be “eventful”.

Brother Tony Lentine and his wife Lee, so very proud of his granddaughter serving in the army overseas.

Brother Nick Cetrulo took his grandson “Big Nick” to his first golf outing… that’s nice!

A very special HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Brother Phil Agatino who will be 95 on July 30!

Did you see the nice party that they had for Brother Fr. Regis Wallace ? So nice, they even named June 17 Father Regis Wallace Day. Congrats Father Regis.

What a great thing to do. Brother Joe Harris and his wife Karen take city kids into their home for a fresh air fun vacation! That’s wonderful! We’re proud of you both.
