October 2007 News Letter

My Brother Knights:
The new Columbian year has started well with over 50 Brothers attending our “Turn On” meeting Sept 20th. With the great weather and a great cook, Joe Kowalski (with help from Nick Cetrulo) providing our Italian hot dogs, everyone seemed to enjoy the evening. First Degree Certificates were given to 8 of the Brothers who became members last year. The Officer’s installation at Notre Dame on Sept 15 followed by the repast at Il Villagio had 42 Brothers and wives and, of course, Brother James attending to enjoy the food and each other’s company.
Now, with one of the busiest months of the Columbian year in October, we must get more Brothers involved. Starting with the membership Blitz, we need to add more good Catholic men to our Council. Check the dates on the cover of the newsletter.
See how you can become involved by deciding to chair or assist a Brother running an event. We also need Brothers who may have an idea to promote the charitable acts of Council 6904.
Our recent Blood Drive chaired by Nick Cetrulo is an example of someone taking the responsibility and doing a great job. Nick has made the blood Drive a success by his hard work and dedication. Now, run twice a year, the Blood Drive has become a real plus for Council 6904 in the community. As you know, Nick is one of the Trustees of Council 6904, and is a real “Knight by example.” That is why he is the Knight-of-the-Month for October.
Vivat Jesus,
Dennis
REMEMBER GUYS… October’s Social Meeting is OCT 18TH
It’s PASTA Night… a variety of
pastas will be served !!!
This season, 52 people registered to donate blood at our drive. Of those, 47 donors were accepted and 5 deferred. There were also a couple of first-time blood donors… THANKS!
I would also like to thank all Brother Knights who either registered to donate
blood and/or worked at the Blood Drive. They are Jerry Martino, Joe Quinn, Ray
Keimig, Joe Ward, Dennis Fashano, Robert Flieger, Jerry Berardi, Michael
Ricciardi, Joseph Salko, Joseph Gilberti, Joe Pissauro, Joe Bono, Don DePalma,
Dennis Dittrick, Robert Smith, Carmen Blandino, Dick Larkin, Robert O’Hare,
Mark Kearney, Henry Carlone, and Ralph Cetrulo (I hope I didn't miss anyone!).
Special thanks to Our Lady of Merry and Fr. Sean for their help and support.
The 125th Supreme Convention

Our Worthy Grand Knight, Dennis Fashano attended the 2007 Supreme
Convention along with his lovely wife Diane. He was one of ten delegates
representing the State of New Jersey.
The convention was held at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Resort in Nashville, Tennessee. The Opryland is a nine acre resort enclosed by the worlds
largest atrium.
In addition to Dennis, Elizabeth Ann Seton Brothers Frank A. Manganelli and
Walter F. Marino served as the Supreme Convention Coordinators for the New
Jersey State Council.
The highlight of the convention was the attendance of The Vatican Secretary of
State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the second highest ranking official at the Vatican. It was very impressive to see so many Cardinals, Bishops and Clergy in
attendance from all around the world.
To sum things up, a great time was had by all!

GOODBYE DEACON PETER
Deacon Peter Glabik, who, for the past year has graced the Parish Family at Our Lady of Mercy with his joy and friendship, will be ordained into the priesthood at St. Cecilia’s in Rockaway on October 29th at 7:30.
Fr. Peter will say his first mass at OLM on November 3rd at the 5:30 mass. He will be permanently assigned to St. Cecilia’s.
After mass, there will be a dinner/reception in the Parish Center. We are asking for help in setting up the Center and for serving the food. Brothers should arrive at 2pm to help with setup and after mass to serve the food.
CHRISTMAS RAFFLE
As you all know, our annual family Christmas party will take place on Saturday, December 1st at OLM Parish Center. In addition to being a wonderful way to kick-off the holidays, we also hold a raffle proceeds of which go to youth programs at Notre Dame and OLM.
Enclosed in this Newsletter are two raffle ticket books each with ten tickets. Please do your best to sell them and send the stubs to Knights of Columbus, P.O. Box 161, Whippany, NJ, 07981. If you have any questions, or need more tickets, please contact George Coppola at 973-503-1127.
