December 2007 News Letter

My Brother Knights:
This morning I woke up to the radio and listened to the ensuing discussion about the display of Christmas and other religious decorations during the holidays. We have all heard the protests against Christmas concerts and municipal displays. Some go as far as to assert that Christmas trees should not be topped by angels and that we should call them “holiday trees!”
We, as Catholics and Knights of Columbus, need to promote “Keeping Christ in Christmas” through our words and charitable deeds. Let us be the strong majority this holiday season as we prepare for the birth of Christ.
During the month of December, Council 6904 will again demonstrate that charity is our cornerstone. Our Brothers work very hard every year to make the annual Christmas party a success. Also, many of our Brothers support Bob Fleiger with an outpouring of donations as he collects for the homeless of Eva’s Kitchen in Paterson. Please do your part to help those in need this season.
Therefore, it is appropriate that we honor Brother Bob Fleiger as our December Knight of the Month. Bob continually sets a high charitable example with his efforts at Eva’s Kitchen. Each year he purchases all of the items needed for our Thanksgiving Mass “Coffee and…”. Most recently, Bob volunteered his time and braved the cold as he sold raffle tickets outside of Foodtown for our Christmas raffle. Finally, there is a *twinkle* in his eye that only a Santa can have. Thank you, Bob.
I would like to wish all the Brothers of Council 6904 and their families and friends a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Vivat Jesus,
Dennis

To all my brother Knights, my very best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous
New Year. Once again we had our annual Parish Christmas Party – only this time it was back to the HUGE success we’ve enjoyed in the past. The list of brothers to thank is unbelievable. As John O'Brien always states, “everyone is always smiling”… and this year was no different. I would like to begin with the annual raffle which we reinstituted this year. On Saturday 11/24, the following Brothers and family members at Foodtown, Pathmark, Pronto and Dunkin Donuts. They were Joe, Kevin and Nathan Ward, Richard Koch, Mike Riccardi, Joe Gilberti, Bob Fleiger, Dennis Fashano, Nick Cetrulo, Len Fariello, Bob Hincke, Joe Kowalski, Vinnie Lobello and his little daughter Rebecca who was keeping herself warm in Dunkin Donuts. I would like to extend a special thanks to Majella Lobello for the beautiful poster she made which we hung on the window next to Dunkin Donuts. I would also like to thank Judy Iradi who not only bought tickets at Dunkin Donuts but also gave us a check for $100.00 towards our party in her deceased brother SK John Iradi’s memory.
On the day of our Parish Christmas Party, we had a fantastic amount of decorations, music, magic and food. But, most importantly, there was Santa and children of all ages. To make this party a memorable day, it took a lot of work and a lot of Brothers. The day began as usual with breakfast at 7 for A-Team members who would be cooking and decorating for the day. We had many Brothers and their families helping to cook and set up the center for our party. There was Mark and Ryan Kearney, Carmen Blandino, Joe, Kevin and Nathan Ward, Joe “IRON CHEF” Kowalski, Joe Milano, Ed Moscariello (on loan from Judy Iradi), Topsy Tony Lentine, Dennis Dittrick, John Corona, Nick Cetrulo, Ralph Cetrulo and big Nick Cetrulo, Richard Koch, Mike Ricciardi, Jim Ruvo, Robert Peters, Robert Fleiger, Arnold George, and Bob, Matt, and Tim Gallo. And thank you to the many Brothers who helped serve the food and clean up afterwards.
As someone who feels strongly about motherhood, apple pie and “God Bless America”, I extend my heartfelt thanks to Majella Lobello for bringing Christmas Cards and crayons for the kids to write cards to our troops overseas. Thank You Majella. I would like to further thank Worthy Grand Knight Dennis Fashano, Joe Kowalski, Joe Ward and his sons Kevin and Nathan, and Ed Moscariello for coming back Sunday morning to return all of the supplies to Monroe Hall.
As always when called for help, "They will come, and they did."
May the Peace of the Lord be with you all and your families always.....George!

CHRISTMAS PARTY THANKS

While the report on this year’s Christmas Party is pending because we’re still awaiting some expense figures, I can report that the head count was 183. While that figure is only 18 more than the all-time low set last year, many brothers felt there really were more than 200 people in attendance based on the food consumed, the “look” of the crowd and the number of raffle tickets sold. As always, I want to commend the A-Team, led by George Coppola and assisted by Joe Kowalski, which prepared its usual delicious meal. This recognition includes the countless other helper “chefs,” kitchen “go-fers,” servers and others who names I do not have but whose identity is preserved in the annual A-Team group picture taken by Dan Aloia just before the start of serving. Hats off to George Coppola, who procured the off premises raffle tickets in timely fashion, and to Joe Ward, who mailed the tickets to the brotherhood and also ran the outside sale of tickets on the weekend after Thanksgiving. George and Joe also handled hall decorations, which were the best ever. I want to thank Dennis Fashano, Derek Jess, Bob Gallo, Vinnie Lobello, Bob Smith, Carmen Blandino, and Joe Ward, who handled ticket sales for both raffles the night of the party. Nick Cetrulo and Mark Kearney were the stage monitors, and Ray Keimig took care of admissions at the door. Thanks also to long-time “Santa Claus” Bob Fleiger and to the following Knights for “upscale” gift donations or cash contributions: Dennis Fashano, Mike Ricciardi, Nick Cetrulo, Ralph Cetrulo, Joe Milano, John Carman, Dan Aloia, Tony Lentine, and Arnold George. I’m always delighted to acknowledge the contributions of the many brothers whose efforts make this party a success.
